“Peace Love and Ice Cream”

Something that can taste amazing and be good for our planet? Sounds too good to be true, right? When Ben and Jerry’s started in 1978, they had this vision. Founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield believed in creating a sustainable supply chain, and positive outcomes for “everyone connected to our business”

This really does mean everyone.

From sourcing Fairtrade ingredients, to partnering with some incredible organisation fighting climate change, supporting the community is a passion that continues to this day. The Ben and Jerry foundation works in many different parts of the community.

Some of their fantastic work includes:

  1. Partnership with 350 Australia; an organisation dedicated to campaigning against environmentally destructive work that threatens our planet
  2. Running grant programs to help organisations that have ideas for change in the USA
  3. Proudly, publicly and actively supporting Marriage equality in Australia.
Having all their ingredients sourced Fairtrade.
  4. Being an active member of The Peace Alliance

  And that’s not all.

Not only does their ice cream do good for our world and taste great, it’s also a certified B-Corp, an organisation that recognises companies that do outstanding work for the community, and of which Savingreen is a proud member.
Savingreen and Ben and Jerry’s share this passion for the planet, and we hope you can share with us in recognising their amazing contribution to building peace in all parts of our small world.
Now excuse me, I’m off to eat another tub!

TOM Organnic

“The environment is in us, not outside us. The trees are our bloodstream. We are all interconnected, and what you do to the environment, ultimately you will do to yourself.”

Interesting concept, isn’t it? If we look at the marketing that surrounds us, it has typically been designed to promote the lavished capabilities and glossy aesthetics of the final product. However, we also have a growing disconnect between customers and their knowledge about what they are consuming. This is the focus of TOM Organic; the Melbourne based business, dedicated to making pads and tampons without harming the environment, or you, and to help raise awareness about what we’re putting into our bodies.

If we take a closer look at traditional menstruation products, we quickly discover that they are laced with pesticides and synthetic products. The harmful ways in which we treat the environment when we create products is being fed straight back into the most sensitive areas in our bodies.

Did You Know: 27,000 trees are cut down each day so we can have Toilet Paper. Who Gives A Crap makes recycled Toilet paper

Keep an eye out for: Single Use Coffee Cups

Plastic coffee cups have been a part of our lives for a long time, fulling our raging caffeine habit. These cups however are doing damage to our bodies, and our environment. Next issue, we investigate these risks, and explore how reusable coffee cups can be used to help make the world a better place
