Property Initiatives Real Estate is Australia’s first full service, social enterprise real estate agency. They provide comprehensive residential sales and property management services across Inner-Melbourne.

Their social-enterprise business model ensures that all profits go towards building homes for women and children who are at risk of homelessness.

They are partnered with Women’s Property Initiatives (WPI), a not-For-Profit organisation, established in 1996 through a project funded by the Victorian state government in response to a lack of affordable, appropriate and secure housing for low-income single women and single mothers.

Property Initiative Real Estate is the brainchild of Jeanette Large, who is CEO of both organisations. Funding for not-for-profit organisations, including WPI, is usually reliant on philanthropic donations which are generally ad-hoc. Property Initiative Real Estate aims to combat this by generating regular and ongoing income, enabling building and buying of new houses and apartments for families in need.

This social enterprise model is an inspiration for other charities to seek funding models that are less reliant on donations and government support. It is also a wonderful example of how business for profit can be used to support positive social, economic and environmental outcomes. We are not the only ones to recognise this. Jeanette Large was named a finalist in the prestigious Telstra Businesswoman of the Year Award 2015.

So how can you help? Simple; when you are thinking of buying selling or renting a house, consider Property Initiatives Real Estate as your agent. To register your interest, or to find out more, go to their website

Ways and Means coffee shop, an initiative of Youth Support Advocacy Service (YSAS), gives disadvantaged and disenfranchised young people the skills to change their lives!

If it’s not already clear, we at SavinGreen love coffee. It makes us fee good, motivates us to achieve beyond what we achieved yesterday. Motivates us to change our lives. Not everyone uses this motivation to achieve the same thing. While some may consider writing 300 words in 20 minutes an achievement worth celebrating, some don’t have the opportunity to turn up to work, and struggle to get a job even though they desperately want one. Some simply don’t have the skills, or the experience, to make their way. Ways and Means aims to change this.
